What is Carbon Footprint?
Carbon Footprint is the pollution emitted through burning of fuel that influences climate change. It is the measurement of the greenhouse gases or carbon dioxide (CO2) emitted by a single person in his or her daily activities.
Effects of Carbon Footprint
Climate Change – as the name implies, it is the change in climate of the earth’s surface that includes temperature, humidity, winds, precipitation, and seasons. A gradual change in climate can affect all organisms living in the planet including plants, animals, and people. It can also cause major reduction in food production, availability of potable water, and health illness.
Resources Depletion – a man made phenomenon causing food resources like plants, animals, water, and other raw material to decrease in a rapid rate. Over consumption and carbon footprints are some of the know causes for the depletion of resources.
Greenhouse Gas Emission – greenhouse gases are emitted solely by humans through their daily activities that causes heat to be trapped and gradually increasing earth’s temperature. These are the gasses emitted through electricity generation and transport related services.
Reduce My Carbon Footprint – What to do?
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. These 3 R’s are the basic fundamental in reducing your carbon footprint. By simply turning off the light when not in use, using reusable utensils than plastic or Styrofoam tools, and walking or biking for short commutes will help a lot in lessening carbon footprint as well as its impact to the environment.
